ABA Therapy Services
During 1:1 ABA Sessions, we implement the personalized treatment plan goals we worked on creating with you during the assessment. We collect, graph, and analyze performance data to assess our work on an ongoing basis. This allows us to effectively use evidence-based interventions to make progress towards your child’s goals. Continuous progress monitoring allows us to keep doing what’s working and to quickly adjust the plan when needed.
To an outside observer, the way we approach ABA, using Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBI), may look just like play.
The therapist will share control of the session with the child and may imitate the child’s language, play, or movements. You may also see the therapist modeling behaviors and interactions for the child and using prompting and prompt fading to teach new skills.
Therapists use natural reinforcement and motivation in NDBI. For example, the therapist may arrange the environment so that the child must interact with adults to gain access to a particular object or activity.
We use a method we call the “+1” or the “Goldilocks” method – not too hot, not too cold, but just right! We teach and model skills just slightly above your child’s current performance level. For example, if your child currently responds in mostly one word answers, we will model two word responses. If your child demonstrates one action with a toy, we will model two. This presents lots of learning opportunities, ensures we are targeting skills with just the right level for progress to be made, without frustrating our learners by asking them to do things that are too hard. Effective and efficient is our goal – we want to see the most results in the shortest amount of time.
